The epic-life-extinguishing-jungle justice mob incident which took
place two days ago just at the Isikalu street junction on Wilmer
crescent road was witnessed by residents (men, women and children) and
passers by. It was a remorseful spectacle to watch as some men among the
mob considered themselves heroes after the act. Eye witnesses who spoke
to Kirikiri News Media said it was their first time to see a human
being burnt like a goat.
"At midnight I heard a gunshot, when I rushed out of the house, I noticed that even if was just some minutes to 2am, people lurked around because the is a hotel on our street and they play music till 3am sometimes. The street was empty. later that early morning, we saw someone being paraded, with blood all over his body, tire was fixed on his body and the next thing, he was set ablaze. the fire quenched at some point, more fuel was added he was set ablaze again. He burnt until almost late hours of the morning. It was Red cross society that removed his body from the street. We heard that the Night watchers (OPC) who have been on guard that night, shot the suspect just after he successful made away with over NGN 50000 wort of loot from his passenger. The OPC have warned him several time to desist from stealing". Before his demise, he used to be a commercial bike driver who would carry you, rob you and drop you" the eye witness said
"They should have reported him to the police instead of burning him, look at how the children are watching. this is barbaric" a resident uttered silently at the burning site for the fear of being called an associate of the burnt criminal suspect.
"At least we will rest in this area, that guy terrorized us" Tope uttered.
However, the police swarmed into action looking for the people in connection to the crime but everybody abandoned their tent and fled including the Vigilante (OPC). Residents disclose that the police was reported to have arrested people who documented the incident with their phones and took them to the police station.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Patricia Amadin is yet to confirm and address the jungle justice in Ajegule, Lagos and police aggression towards simple freedom of speech. She has not been available for comments on this issue.
